5 Tips for Keyword Research for Food Bloggers

June 7, 2022 by diannejacob 8 Comments

Image for tips for keyword research for food bloggersBy Sarah of Wandercooks

In Feb 2020, our food blog Wandercooks was at 75,000 monthly views. We spent six months updating all of our content through deep keyword search analysis. As a result, our organic traffic has now grown to over 600,000 monthly views in just two years. Our keyword research paid off.

Keyword research is an essential part of getting traffic to a food blog. Yet it’s often overlooked in the development and research stage of a recipe. If done correctly, however, keyword research can save you  hours on a post that will never rank, and help you build organic traffic with the content already on your site.

Here are my tips for keyword research:

1. Writing for humans is still number 1.

Do keyword research alongside your writing. It’s not the only thing driving your content creation.

Use keywords to find recipe ideas you can actually rank for, and help build out your topic with useful information for the average home cook.

By talking about the topic as a whole and providing things like [Read more…] about 5 Tips for Keyword Research for Food Bloggers

Create More Content for Your Food Blog in 2022

A guest post by Alexa Peduzzi of Food Blogger Pro

If you’ve been in the blogging industry for more than a few minutes, you’ve probably heard a very common catchphrase –– “Content is king.” At the new year, you may have set some goals for your blog. If they’re anything like mine, they revolve around creating more content.

And, of course, that’s easier said than done. I’m coming off a year where I took eight months off from posting on my blog (more on that here). Now I’m excited to head into this year with a plan to help me actually achieve my goals.

Here are the five strategies to create more (and better) content this year:

1. Batch your blog posts.

Content batching allows you to make a bunch of content all at the same time. It is all about planning, working ahead and making the most of your limited time. For example, you may decide to content batch a month’s worth of [Read more…] about Create More Content for Your Food Blog in 2022

4 Best Practices for Navigating Brand Contracts

January 18, 2022 by diannejacob Leave a Comment

You just landed your first brand deal. Congratulations! You got a brand’s attention and proved that you can create engaging content for their channels. Now comes the trickiest part for many food bloggers: navigating brand contracts.

If you’re a food blogger who creates content for brands such as original recipes, photography, or video, you may think of negotiating contracts as a tedious but necessary evil.  Maybe you think it’s something both sides need to protect their interests. While contracts do offer vital protections,  they can also sustain your business and the longevity of your relationship with a brand. Is a Work-for-Hire Cookbook Worth It?

January 19, 2021 by diannejacob 15 Comments

image for post about writing a work-for-hire cookbookBy Aneesha Gupta

In January, 2020, my husband asked me what were my top goals for the year. Instinctively, I said, “I want to write a cookbook.” At the time, I didn’t know that would mean a work-for-hire cookbook.

A few weeks later, I received a cookbook offer from Callisto Media. The editor wanted a cookbook on world curries made easy, using an electric pressure cooker. Here was a topic that fit my interests and aligned with the recipes on my blog.

I had heard about Callisto from [Read more…] about Is a Work-for-Hire Cookbook Worth It?

Why I’m Not Concerned About SEO

April 28, 2020 by diannejacob 26 Comments

image for post about SEOA guest post by Jean of Delightful Repast

For 10 years I posted once a week like clockwork. For year 11, I decided to post just once every two weeks. Will that hurt my SEO (Search Engine Optimization)? I don’t care. I’m too busy writing quality content—in my own unique voice without any gimmicks—punctuated with pretty food pictures. I’m not concerned about SEO.

Would I love to be a “successful” food blogger with a huge audience? Of course! But I don’t usually think about that. If I did, I’d have to be concerned about SEO: Things like posting frequency and timing, stats, email lists, paid promotions on social media platforms, which recipes are trending, and oh so much more.

My blog is a platform for self-expression, where I share the [Read more…] about Why I’m Not Concerned About SEO

Why Food Bloggers Don’t Just “Stick to Recipes”

March 17, 2020 by diannejacob 21 Comments

Image for post about not sticking to just recipesBy Vicky Cohen and Ruth Fox of MayIHaveThatRecipe.com

We get it. Many people who search for recipes online want food bloggers to stick to recipes. They don’t want a backstory, tips on how to make the dish — none of that “nonsense.”

We’ve all seen the tweets:

“Why does every recipe have to have a mini-essay preceding it? #justgivemetherecipe”

“If you blog an 8-page life story about a recipe that you have instead of getting straight to the point, then you deserve to be judo chopped in the neck and I will forever pray that a swarm of bees follow you around for the rest of your life. #justgivemetherecipe”

Apparently, no one has the time or patience to scroll for 30 seconds (unless they’re scrolling through their Facebook or Instagram feed), to find what they came for.

For food bloggers like us, it’s annoying. Sometimes it’s infuriating. Because [Read more…] about Why Food Bloggers Don’t Just “Stick to Recipes”

How SEO Rules for Food Blogs Can Make Them Less Effective

January 21, 2020 by diannejacob 61 Comments

Image for post on SEO rulesI’ve been thinking about the growing power of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts and their advice. Hiring them has been a powerful way for food bloggers to learn the SEO rules for food blogs and increase their readership.

I’m all for that. I try for good SEO in my posts as well.

But do the changes these experts advise also [Read more…] about How SEO Rules for Food Blogs Can Make Them Less Effective
