Thanks, really.

December 29, 2015 by diannejacob 36 Comments

15_domo_data-never-sleeps-3_final1-1I know you’re busy. Just look at all that happens online! Are we suckered into paying attention to this stuff? Yes.

So it makes it even more relevant for me to say thanks for a reading, thinking, and commenting about food writing in all its forms, here on my blog.

It’s amazing to me that you come back, again and again. I’m grateful regardless of whether you skim the content, read the whole post, or add a comment.

I’m especially grateful for when you don’t agree with me in the comments. In fact, can that be your New Year’s resolution, to disagree with me more often? I would like that. There’s more to learn when we’re not all nodding our heads. And it makes the blog more fun to read too.

This month marks 6.5 years since I began this thing in June 2009. What’s changed most? Comments. There are many more online places to write about the subjects covered here, so comments are down. The chart above tells part of the story.

So thanks that, in such a busy online world, you make time for me. I’ll see you back here in 2016.

Happy New Year!

Dianne

p.s. I am grateful more often these days. This free online class has lots to do with why, and it starts again on January 5.

There really is a lot out there to capture our interest, but I think there’s always room for good writing on subjects we care about. Even if we don’t agree with everything the writer says. That said, I can’t find anything to disagree with you about in this post. Happy New Year!

I had never thought of myself as having a “tireless good nature” so thanks for the compliment, Julia. I’ll have to see if my husband agrees. 😉

It is a fantastic course. The challenge for most people is to do all the homework and not drop out. I persevered and I am reaping bucketloads.

It’s hard to disagree with you. Even reading your book, you are straightforward and honest with your words and expectations, while encouraging the readers to push forward. So, thank you!

I only just started blogging and -gathering all my courage- tweeted a question to The Expert. Your insightful answer was waiting there for me the next morning. That is not a virtue of the Internet, but about how people like you make it live and breathe. Cheers, Dianne!

      Chris,
I know what you mean, it’s terrifying at first to post anything to social media and not know how it will be received, and to get feedback from the experts is a small-big victory. I feel this is a nurturing space where people with different levels of experience share their thoughts. I’m here every week reading up on the blog and the comments.

I’ve only been writing and blogging for a year and a half. During that time, I’ve checked out many different sources of information (and there’s a LOT) on the subject. What I’ve concluded is that the best sources of solid information are: your book “Will Write for Food”, your blog with the email links to the posts that I look forward to so much, and your website with links to past posts. I always find the subject matter of your posts very pertinent and on point; they also challenge me and make me think. Happy New Year and keep those posts coming. I will definitely read them.

As for me, this is the first time I’m writing a comment here. I’ll do it more often next year and make sure I disagree with you from time to time. 🙂
