I know, right? Sometimes I have to pinch myself. I taught my first workshop with food and travel photographer David Hagerman and food and travel writer Robyn Eckhardt in Turkey last October, and had a blast. Now they’ve invited me back, this time to teach culinary storytelling in Cambodia in June.
Our workshop is Crafting Culinary Stories: An Intensive Workshop in Food Photography and Writing. It takes place in the resort town of Siem Reap, June 3 to 8 and already there are only 3 spaces left!
Why to join us:
If you’ve always needed an excuse to visit Cambodia and eat magnificently, this is it. Accommodations are gorgeous and within walking distance of shopping, bars, cafes and restaurants. You’ll explore local ingredients and dishes, from markets and street food to fine dining, guided by Robin and Dave’s knowledge of this little-known but wonderful food. If you stay longer, you’ll be only 25 minutes from Angkor Wat, a famous collection of temples from the 9th to 15th Century.
Of course, if you’d like to work on your photography skills, why not learn from Dave, who shoots food for such top-of-the-line publications such as the New York Times and Saveur magazine, to name just a few? Robyn will talk about her extensive research methods as a travel writer. And I’ll teach on food writing trends plus writing technique, interviewing skills, and story shaping. You’ll have a chance to bounce story ideas off us and to start a draft of a piece, whether for a blog, publication or website. You’ll get a 30-minute private consultation with both Dave and me, to discuss career, fine points of photography, food writing, or whatever’s on your mind. Check the schedule on the home page to see more details.
So maybe I’ll see you in Siem Reap this summer. If you have any questions, ask in the comments below. Robyn will also be on hand to answer. But don’t dally — if you really want to join us, seats are going fast!
You’ll certainly see me in Siem Reap – I wouldn’t miss this for the world!
Yay! I’m really looking forward to hanging with you, Amanda.
Us too!
Dianne, I wish you would teach in Brazil too. It’s hard to learn about food writing, styling and photography over here. 🙁
I’d love to come to Brazil, Nathalia. If you’re willing to host a conference, maybe it could happen. Maybe Dave will come too!
And I wish you would come to Austria! One day we may meet somewhere. It is a small world sometimes although there is so much to explore. I hope you have a great time in Cambodia. I’ll be looking forward to reading all about it.
I may be coming to Europe later this year, Maria, so that might be possible. I’ll know soon. Thanks for your interest!
Dianne… Thank you for making me smile ear to ear remembering my trip to Cambodia in 2014! You are in for such a treat! I hope you have time allotted for adventure and aren’t tied completely to the workshop schedule. I wish I could join you but instead I’ll give you 3 tips – first, bring home a meditation bowl (I did and wish I would have picked up several more for gifts. People love them.) Second, when you find one of those exfoliating fish tanks in public markets, by all means pay to immerse your feet. It sounds funny, but it is awesome!! Third, hit the local markets, the REAL local markets. This is always my favorite thing to do when traveling in the non-West world.
I’m assuming that your itinerary takes you to the temples. After all, why go to Cambodia if you’re not. But make sure you get to Ta Prohm and Banteay Srei and not just the biggie, Angkor Wat.
I’m excited for you!
What great tips, Marie! I will definitely look for the meditation bowls and get my feet exfoliated. Dave and Robyn specialize in taking people to the public markets, so that part is covered. And yes, I’m planning to go to a few temples. I’ve been looking at images online and I can’t wait. Thanks.
Hello Dianne!!!!!
Today, I picked up a copy of “edible, Vancouver & Wine Country, Eat. Drink. Read. Think. Almost Spring 2016. ”
My breath gasped. There in B&W a photo of Moses Jacob with daughters, Dianne and Evelyn walking hand in hand on Granville Street.
Seized the moment holding onto knowing I had finally found you.
I easily cast my mind back to early memories as a guest at your family table with your mom Ritchie and dad and you, Evelyn and my sister Sharon. My parents too.
A very good book!
Make it our story from the 50’s and 60’s.
I remember the food at your family table was delicious. I remember not wanting to share a dish that was so yummy.
I am so pleased to make your re – acquaintance.
I have very clear memories of the uniqueness of your family.

Hello Rochelle! Lovely to find you. I will email you privately.
Hi Dianne, what an incredible experience this would be! I’m sure most people can’t say they’ve visited Cambodia before. I’m sure it will be amazing for all involved.
Thank you Susan. Perhaps I’l finally get to meet you at one of these events.
