Dinner at the Okanagan Food and Wine Writers annual conference in British Columbia, Canada, where I was a speaker.
Are you attending food blogging and writing conferences? Or speaking at one?
I hope you’ll pick at least one. Conferences are a great way to shake up your brain, network in person, and get re-inspired about what you love. And if you’d like to speak, there’s usually an online place to apply.
Please let me know if there’s a conference that’s not on this list:
2019 Food Blogging and Writing Conferences:
- February 24, Southern Foodways Winter Symposium, Birmingham, AL
- August 14-16, FABlogcon, (Food Allergy Blogging Conference), Portland, OR
- September 12-16th, Cookbook Festival, Chiswick, London, England
- September 19-21, Tastemaker Conference, Portland, OR
- October 24-27, Les Dames D’Escoffier International annual conference, Nashville, TN
- November 6-8, Mediavine conference, Austin, TX
2020 Food Blogging and Writing Conferences:
- March 27-29, International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Annual Conference, Pittsburgh, PA
- November 12-14, International Food Blogger Conference, Juneau, Alaska

It does look good, doesn’t it. Maybe you’ll pick one to attend.
Happy New Year Dianne. I didn’t know about the Oxford Symposium. Really interesting
Yes it’s quite a fascinating academic conference. You need to submit a paper!
Excellent list! Thanks, Dianne.
Sure. My pleasure, Lori.
Thanks for the list Dianne, as I have only really taken part in FBC London several times & the Indaba in SA but never conferences in the US I was surprised to see that the price for the July 29-31, International Food Blogger Conference, Sacramento, CA varies depending on whether you agree to write at least 3 posts about the conference on subjects of your choice. Is this normal procedure for conferences? If you don’t do it or criticize do you have to then retroactively pay more?
Thanks for feedback, Karin
Yes, so far they are the only ones using this technique, so no, it is not normal. If you don’t want to write the posts you will pay the regular price of admission. Think about your audience and whether three posts would be right for them.
Food Allergy Blogger Conference, too.
Right Alisa. Someone else mentioned that one too in the comments.
Great list! Thank you for putting this together, Dianne!
Hey Jeanne, you are most welcome. See you at IACP?

My pleasure Betty Ann. Which are you going to, do you know? I will definitely be at IACP.
Which would you recommend for a first timer, fairly new to the food blogging/writing world?
I’d love to go to all but can only manage one, max. two.
Thank you for the list, i’ll bookmark all of them for the future.
Best
Paula
BlogHer Food is the biggest, so if that seems intimidating, try something smaller. Look at the sessions and see which appeal to you most. Some might focus on working with brands, some on photography, some on SEO, etc. Also see who’s speaking, because sometimes they are people you’d love to meet or hear speak. Also see where they’re held, because you might be dying to go there.
We would love for you to attend Everything Food Conference! We’re have an incredible line up of speakers and SO much more… also, there’s a massive sale on January 16th. You do not want to miss out. Hope you’ll join us! http://www.foodbloggingconference.com/register/
Oh right, I forgot about this one. I have added it to the list. Thanks Kami.
Great list! One more to add: The Southern Food Writing Conference
http://www.biscuitfest.com/registration/ May 12-13, it is run in tandem with the International Biscuit Festival in Knoxville, TN.
Hi Kerry, thanks for this. I can’t find specific food writing content, but I assume it’s not on the schedule yet.
Holy conference proliferation, Batman!
You think there are too many, I take it?
Hi Dianne!
Here is a new conference, year #2 in Portland, Oregon. 🙂 http://www.indulgeconference.com/
Also, Chopped Conference has happened in October for the last 2 year in Kansas City. No dates announced for this year yet, but if they offer it, it’s a great conference! http://choppedcon.com
Oh right, I forgot about Chopped. I was the speaker at their very first conference. And I had not heard about Indulge. Thank you Beth. I will add them.
Great info Dianne! Thanks as always!
You’re welcome, Leticia. Hope to bump into you at one of these soon.
Wow. What a list! Thanks for putting this together. Decision, decisions…
Yes, quite a bevvy to choose from, Maureen.
So I looked online to apply as a speaker (since I’m already attending Sustainable Foods Institute at Monterey Bay Aquarium in September and would love to break into that part of the industry) and found The Edible Institute Food Writing Conference. 2015 was Eating Words “…Why do you write of food, not love or war?” MFK Fisher What a terrific speaker lineup! 2016 isn’t set up yet. http://ediblenetwork.com/eatingwords/
I am excited about this list. TECHmunch SF and BlogHer look really interesting.
I’m glad to have found your website and I just got your “Will write…” book in the mail today. Excited to start reading!
Thanks!
Alisa
Wow, Alisa, you’re all in. Thanks for getting my book and for becoming a reader.
Food Book Fair is May 1 & 2
I feel like a kid in a candy store – thanks for compiling such a terrific list of events.
Though not marketed as a conference, Epicurean Creative is hosting a Food to Frame Food Media Retreat August 10 – 16th. Topics covered include Food Photography, Adding Motion, Writing and Shooting a Cookbook.
We are super excited to feature Andrew Scrivani, Soo-Jeong Kang and Kate McDermott as our speakers throughout the week.

Cheers!
Thanks for letting me know about your event. I just added it to the schedule. Best of luck.
Hi I am thinking of starting a family cookbook food blog. Is there a conference you recommend for beginners? I’d like to get all the information I can before I officially start, or while I am starting out. Any advice would be appreciated. (I am from Rhode Island). – Best- Monika
Hi Monica, look up the seminars at the blogging workshops and see if they resonate for you. If not, there is a big chapter in Will Write for Food about starting and maintaining a blog.
Thanks for providing such a comprehensive list! And thanks for including the Chopped Conference. The date for that is September 22-23, 2016 in Kansas City, MO.
Hi Marly, thanks for the update. Give me a link and I’ll add it to the list.
I was just getting ready to make this list…and you already did! Thank you! And it was great to meet you at TechMunch SF last week 🙂
I could use more dates for 2017, but it’s a good starting place, Traci. Great to meet you last week as well.
